Nightspots The Enormous Shadow (2010)
The Enormous Shadow is an artist based in Brighton, UK who has played with the likes of Washed Out, Toro Y Moi, and High Places. He’s making terrific 80s-tinged washed out pop music. The song has some great 808 drums filling it out and even better synth riffs that cut through the song, topped off with some traditionally chillwave lo-fi vocals. The song has a slightly darker tone than most typical “chillwave”, I think thanks to its 80s retro vibe, and it gives the song a sense of uniqueness that is much appreciated here.
Download “Nightspots” for free at The Enormous Shadow’s Bandcamp and look for him as he will be playing a gig or two with Twin Sister sometime next month.

We are quickly approaching the Oct. 26th release date for Small Black’s debut effort, New Chain, on Jagjaguwar Records (also home to Women and Bon Iver). These NYC chillwavers have certainly caught my attention with this new track, and I have officially begun my three week countdown to its release. For now, enjoy “Search Party”, head over to Stereogum for yet another track, and be sure to pre-order your copy of New Chain here.
